Further Information
The PGA screen is one of those containing "exotic" conditions for protein crystallization, allowing the exploration of non-conventional chemistries in the crystallization phase diagram. We use it routinely and found that, in some cases such as in our latest publication (doi: 10.1038/s41467-018-05631-5), initial crystal hits could only be obtained using PGA as crystallization agent.
Dear Prof. Forneris, Thank you very much for your kind words! PGAs have high nucleation potential so can be used at lower concentrations than traditional precipitants. This makes them particularly powerful for easily precipitating proteins. Yours Claire
